Terms of service
What you can expect from Shingle, and what we expect from you.
Last updated
The short version
- You own your business's details and your site's words and pictures. You give us permission to use them to build, host and show your site.
- Check what Shingle writes before you publish it. AI can get facts wrong, and what your site says is yours.
- No scams, fake login or payment pages, or pretending to be someone else. We take sites like that offline.
- Plans renew until you cancel, and you can cancel at any time.
A summary to help you read it. The full text below is what applies.
Who we are
Shingle is run by SALMANDOTWEB LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16714338). Our registered office is 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom.
In these terms, "we" and "us" mean SALMANDOTWEB LTD. "You" means the person using Shingle and, if you use it for a business, that business too.
These terms are the agreement between you and us. By creating an account or using Shingle, you agree to them. Our Refund policy is part of them, and our Privacy policy explains how we handle personal information. If you don't agree, please don't use Shingle.
Your account and your team
- You must be 18 or older to use Shingle. If you sign up for a business, you confirm you're allowed to accept these terms for it.
- Give us accurate details, keep your password safe, and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account. You're responsible for what's done with it.
- Your sites belong to a team. The team's owner is responsible for its plan and for the people they invite. Owners and admins manage the team's people; members build, change and publish its sites; viewers can look but not change anything.
Plans, credits and payment
- Shingle has a Free plan and paid plans. Pricing shows what each includes and costs.
- Our online reseller, Dodo Payments, is the Merchant of Record for every payment. When you buy, you also accept Dodo Payments' buyer terms for that payment. Tax is added at checkout where it applies.
- Paid plans renew each month or year, at the price at the time, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time, and your plan keeps working to the end of the period you paid for.
- Credits pay for the work AI does for you: building a site, a change, a new page, new images or a blog post. Shingle tells you what something costs before you start it. A plan's credits last two months from when you get them, and a pack's last a year.
- Credits aren't money. They can't be exchanged for cash or moved to another team, and they're refunded only as our Refund policy says.
- If we change a plan's price, we'll email the team's owner at least 30 days before the new price applies to them.
Your content
"Your content" is what you give us — your business's details, descriptions, photos, logos and anything you write — and what Shingle makes for your sites at your request: their words, pictures and pages.
- You own your content.
- You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, process, adapt and show your content, only so we can run Shingle for you: to build, change, preview and publish your sites, and to keep them safe. It ends when your content is deleted, apart from copies in backups for a short time and what the law requires us to keep.
- You confirm you have the rights to everything you give us, and that publishing it won't break the law or anyone else's rights.
- The stock photos Shingle adds come from Pexels and are used under the Pexels licence. Fonts are used under their own licences.
- Shingle itself — its software, its designs and its name — stays ours.
What Shingle writes for you
- Shingle uses AI to write and design your sites from what you tell it. AI can make mistakes. It can get a price, an opening time or a claim wrong, even though Shingle checks your site against the facts you gave it.
- Read your site before you publish it, and after each change. You're responsible for what your published site says and shows.
- Because AI writes each site afresh, another site may look or read like yours. That gives neither of you rights over the other's site.
- We don't promise any result from your site, such as a place in search results, visitors or customers.
- You can build sites for your clients and charge them for your work.
What you may not do
You may not use Shingle, or a site built with it, to:
- trick people: scams, fraud, fake shops, or pages that ask for passwords, or card or bank details;
- pretend to be another person, business or organisation, or suggest a link with one that doesn't exist;
- offer anything that's illegal where it's offered, or break the law in any other way;
- publish anything that infringes someone's copyright, trade mark or other rights;
- harass or threaten anyone, or promote violence or hatred;
- publish sexually explicit material, or any sexual content involving children;
- spread malware, or harm visitors' devices or data;
- send spam, or collect people's information without a lawful reason;
- break, overload or probe Shingle, get around its limits, or reach anyone else's account or information.
If your business sells products with an age limit, follow the law where you sell them, including any age checks it requires.
Reports and sites we take offline
- Every page on a Shingle address has a Report this site link, and anyone can use our report page. We review every report.
- If we believe a site breaks these terms or the law, we may take it offline straight away and stop it from being published. We email the team's owners and admins with the reason. If you think we got it wrong, email us and we'll look again.
- For serious or repeated breaches, we may suspend or close your account or your team.
- We may also act on orders from courts, regulators or the police, where the law requires us to.
Your visitors' information
- When people use your site, for example by sending a form, you decide what's collected and why, and you're responsible for it under data protection law. We handle it for you, only to run your site, as our Privacy policy explains.
- Shingle adds a privacy page to your site from your details. Keep it accurate, and add anything your business needs, such as a cookie banner where the law asks for one.
- Don't use your site's forms to collect passwords, card or bank details, or health information.
Web addresses
- You can publish each site at an address on shinglesites.site. You may use it while your site is on Shingle, but it isn't yours to keep or sell.
- We may refuse or change an address that misleads people, pretends to be someone else or breaks these terms.
Changes and availability
- We work to keep Shingle and your published sites running, but we can't promise they'll always be available or free of errors. We sometimes pause things for maintenance.
- We keep improving Shingle and may change or remove features. If a change takes away something important from a paid plan, we'll tell the team's owner before it happens.
Ending your account
- You can stop using Shingle at any time. Cancel your team's paid plan in Plan and billing, and it keeps working to the end of the period you paid for.
- A team's owner can delete the team once its sites are deleted and its plan is cancelled. That deletes everything in it, its Activity included, and it can't be undone.
- You can delete your account in Sign-in and security once you no longer own a team. We then remove your email address, password and sign-in links; your name stays in your teams' history.
- We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or if the law requires us to. Where it's fair, we'll tell you first and give you time to put things right.
- The parts of these terms that are meant to last, such as "Our responsibility to you" and "Law and disputes", still apply after your account ends.
Our responsibility to you
- Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't let us limit.
- We aren't responsible for losses we couldn't reasonably foresee, or for indirect losses such as lost profits, business, revenue or goodwill.
- Keep your own copies of anything important you give us. We back up our systems, but we aren't responsible for losing content you could have kept a copy of.
- Our total responsibility to you in any 12 months is limited to the greater of what you paid us in those 12 months and £100.
- If you use Shingle for a business, you'll cover our reasonable costs if someone brings a claim against us because of your content or because you broke these terms.
- If you use Shingle as a consumer, these limits apply only as far as the law allows, and you keep your statutory rights.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For changes that matter, we'll email teams' owners at least 30 days before they apply, and the date at the top of this page will change. If you keep using Shingle after that, the new terms apply to you. If you don't agree with them, cancel your plan and stop using Shingle before then.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales decide any dispute about them. If you're a consumer living elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you can also go to your local courts, and you keep the protection of your local law.
If something goes wrong, please talk to us first: most problems are quickest to put right by email.
