Forms and submissions
Collect enquiries and manage what visitors send.
Add a form
Shingle adds forms when they fit your business. To add or change one, use the site's conversation and describe what you need, such as “Add a quote request with name, email and a message.” On a phone, open Chat.
New sites plan how visitors can enquire, request or book. Shingle uses a suitable form where needed and keeps existing booking services when they cover that need. You do not need a business email to receive submissions in your site's inbox.
Forms belong to your site. You can have different forms for different enquiries, and each keeps its own submissions. Asking for a form is a change, so it uses 1 credit.
Test and publish
Forms are ready to test as soon as your site is built. Open Design and send a message, or choose Test form from its inbox. The message is saved in Forms and labeled Test.
Publishing makes your site available to visitors, with its forms already enabled. New fields and other changes stay in your draft until you publish. A booking request asks the business to follow up; it does not reserve an appointment.
Read submissions
Open Forms in your site's editor, then choose a form. Open a submission to see every answer and when it arrived. Opening a new submission marks it as read.
Test submissions have a Test label in the inbox and open as Test submission. They let your team check the whole flow without confusing tests with customer enquiries.
Set a submission back to New, archive enquiries you have handled, or move unwanted ones to spam. Use the filter to find them again and move them back when needed. Refresh to check for new submissions.
You need a member role or higher to read and manage submissions. Viewers cannot open the inbox.
Get submissions by email
Each new submission is emailed to the addresses under Submission emails, at the bottom of Forms. Whoever builds a site gets them from the start. When the visitor gave an email address, reply to the email to answer them.
Choose Add email to send them to up to five addresses. A teammate gets them at once. Anyone else, such as a client or an agency, gets a link to confirm first, and is sent nothing until they do. To add someone outside your team, confirm your own email first.
Every email has a link to stop them. To start them again, add the address again: a teammate's start at once, and anyone else confirms again. Test submissions are emailed only to the teammate who sent them. When a site gets more than 30 submissions in an hour, the first 30 are emailed and the rest wait in the inbox.
Pause a form
Open the form's settings to pause or resume collection. You can also change the short confirmation visitors see after sending the form. These settings take effect immediately, without publishing.
Pausing stops new submissions from visitors. Your team can still send labeled tests from the editor.
To change the fields or how the form looks, ask Changes, check the preview and publish.
Your privacy page
Every site has a privacy page at /privacy, linked in its footer and under each form. Shingle writes it from your site, in your site's language: what your forms ask for, how visits are counted, the map if a page shows one, links to other websites, and how visitors can ask about their details, with your contact details.
It updates when you publish. If your site has its own page at /privacy, Shingle leaves it alone. The page describes what your site does; check it covers what the rules where you work ask of you.
Keep or erase submissions
Export submissions as a CSV file when you need a copy. The export uses your current status filter and labels tests separately. Exports contain personal information, so share and store them with care.
Removing a form from your site does not erase its earlier submissions. Restoring a site version does not change your inbox or pause settings.
An admin or owner can permanently delete a submission after confirming. This erases its answers and cannot be undone.
