Widgets
Add a cookie banner or age verification to your site.
Add a cookie banner
Open Widgets in your site's editor and turn on Cookie banner. It asks visitors before your site counts their visit, and before it loads the map from OpenStreetMap when a page shows one. Visitors choose Accept all, Reject all, or Customize to choose each one.
Choose where it sits: along the bottom or the top of the page, or in a bottom corner. On a phone it always sits along the bottom.
A visitor's choice is kept in their browser for a year. Cookie settings in your site's footer, and on its privacy page, opens it again so they can change their mind.
While the banner is on, a visit is counted in Analytics only once the visitor allows it, so your numbers will be lower than before. The map shows Show map in its place until a visitor allows it.
Add age verification
Turn on Age verification to ask visitors their age before they see your site. Set the minimum age, from 13 to 25, and choose how to ask:
- Yes or no: one question with two answers.
- Date of birth: the visitor types it, in the order their language writes dates.
Choose whether to remember the answer for the visit or for 30 days. A visitor too young is told why, and can go back if they answered by mistake.
Age verification asks visitors to declare their age. It does not check anyone's identity. Check what the rules for your business ask of you.
Change the words and colors
Each widget's words are in your site's language until you type your own. Open Wording under a widget and fill in a box to change it; leave it empty to keep the words shown.
Both widgets use your site's colors and fonts. Choose Custom under Colors to pick a background, text, button and button text color. If a color is hard to read, the Widgets tab says so.
The preview shows each widget as a first visitor sees it, on your site's desktop or phone layout. Try its buttons; choose Show again to see it from the start.
Save and publish
Save widgets makes a new version of your site, as Details does. It uses no credits. Open Design to see the widgets on your site's preview, then publish to show them to visitors.
Changes you ask Shingle for keep your widgets as they are. Restoring an earlier version brings back that version's widgets too.
Your site's privacy page says what the widgets keep in a visitor's browser and for how long. You need a member role or higher to change widgets.
